Restore and Explore Campout

This September, the PLC decided to go to Camp Birch to participate in the Restore and Explore campout that was occurring there.

A small group of scouts went to Camp Birch on Friday night and quickly set up their tents at the Wyandot campsite with no problem. After enjoying Cracker Barrel they all went to bed and woke up on Saturday morning. The campers woke up and enjoyed a warm breakfast while waiting for the other scouts to arrive.

The Restoration

The main purpose of this campout was to help clean out honeysuckle at Camp Birch. So, on Saturday morning many scouts from throughout the council came for the day to help clean out the honeysuckle. This was important because not only does it help control this invasive species, but it also allowed scouts to gain conservation service hours which are important to rank advancement.

We were tasked with clearing out a path at the Miami campsite. Together with several other participating troops we made quick progress of the honeysuckle and finish in three hours.

Explore

After the service project was done, all the scouts came back to the campsite, worked on scout skills, ate lunch, and eventually ate dinner as time passed. We all had a fun time and the scouts who came just for the day event slowly left.

Sunday morning, the remaining scouts were able to pack up, eat breakfast and return back to Bishop Ford Hall efficiently.
