This year, the Klondike Derby at Camp Birch was composed of an assortment of fun activities.
Riflery:
At the rifle range, which is located at the northern end of camp, we practiced our marksmanship against paper targets.
First Aid:
The first aid component of Klondike was composed of two parts: a stretcher course, and a first aid scenario at the trading post.
Fire building:
The goal for the fire building challenge was to build a fire and get it to burn for a minimum of two minutes.
Orienteering:
The orienteering course involved locating points when given a starting location, a number of degrees, and a distance.
Tree Identification:
At the Nature building, we were given a selection of leaves, as shown in the image, and tasked with identifying which tree at Camp Birch each one came from.
Klondike Derby
For this year’s Derby, we had to run to the other side of the field and back. Troop 85 won the Derby and got a ribbon this year.
Troop 85
