This October we did a wilderness survival campout at Camp Birch. For breakfast we did wood fire cooking and then we had most of the new scouts earn their totin chit.
After the totin chit had been earned Mr. Heaton did a survival shelter demo. Then we started survival shelters and had a lunch of cold sandwiches. After lunch, we finished our survival shelters and then we cut more wood for our wood fire for dinner.
After we built our shelters we tried to start a fire for dinner. After several attempts with flint and steal, we had to use a match or two.
For dinner we also had a meal in a dutch oven. Then for Cracker Barrel we had dutch oven cinnamon rolls. Later, we went to bed but none of the scouts made it to morning in their shelters. However, some made it past midnight and we all learned a lot.
